Chlordiazepoxide and Clidinium Bromide
Chlordiazepoxide and Clidinium Bromide is a combination medication containing an anti-anxiety agent (chlordiazepoxide) and an anticholinergic (clidinium). Chlordiazepoxide acts on the central nervous system to reduce anxiety and produce a calming effect, while clidinium acts directly on the muscles in the gastrointestinal tract to reduce spasms and stomach acid secretion.
Dosage by Body Weight
The usual adult dosage is 1 or 2 capsules, 3 or 4 times daily, taken before meals (30 to 60 minutes) and at bedtime. Dosage should be individualized to achieve maximum beneficial effects. Elderly or debilitated patients should start with a lower dose (e.g., 1 capsule twice daily) to minimize the risk of oversedation or ataxia.
